Want to enjoy golf in Canyamel in Mallorca?

Mallorca is an island that welcomes travelers who come here seeking true rest, to enjoy beaches with crystal-clear waters, a highly varied Mediterranean-style cuisine, and to be swept away by its landscapes. But there’s a profile of visitor who, in addition to all that, comes eager to play golf—to play lots of golf!

And it’s no wonder, because Mallorca is also one of Europe’s most highly rated golf destinations, with a community of enthusiasts that grows season after season. And it’s not for lack of courses—the island has more than twenty spread from end to end. But today we’re here to tell you about one in particular: the Canyamel golf course.

History of the Canyamel golf course

Canyamel Golf was born in 1988 from the hand of specialist architect José Gancedo, a man known in this sport as the “Picasso of golf” who has also designed other golf courses in Mallorca.

In Canyamel he intended—and succeeded—to design a course that would adapt to the natural topography of the land, without forcing or altering it in the slightest.

A fun fact? The course logo is a turtle, and not by chance, but because just as the environment has been cared for, they also wanted to show respect for the native fauna, such as the Mediterranean tortoises that live on the course. You might even encounter one while you play!

Course characteristics: what's it like?

Canyamel Golf is located between two major tourist areas—Cala Ratjada and Cala Millor—and has no less than 6,198 meters of course. Its greens are fast and undulating, with fairways in perfect condition and numerous lakes.

The course is par 73 with 18 holes and we recommend it whatever your level; it’s demanding, but not unmanageable.

Key holes

There are three holes we can tell you now that you’ll remember from your time at Canyamel Golf.

Hole 4, for its views—on clear days you can see all the way to Menorca; hole 9, because it has a little stone house in the middle of the fairway that makes it difficult to cover its 320 meters in the expected 4 strokes; and, of course, hole 18. This final challenge has a triple undulation in the shape of a “piano” that will put your technique to the test.

Scorecard and Slope Rating of the Canyamel golf course

If you want to arrive at the course knowing exactly what you’re facing, Canyamel Golf provides all the technical information about the course.

The Scorecard is the official course card, showing hole by hole the par, distances from each tee—yellow, red and pro—and the difficulty index of each one.

And the Slope Rating is the international measure that indicates the course’s difficulty for a bogey player—one whose average level leads them to finish a hole with one stroke above par—compared to a scratch player—the zero-handicap player who plays, in theory, at the exact level of the course.

At Canyamel, with the fast greens and constant changes in elevation, this data will give you an idea of the challenge that awaits you. The higher the number, the more demanding.

Services and facilities at the Canyamel golf course

Beyond the course itself, Canyamel Golf in Mallorca has everything: a complete training program for all levels, a boutique shop, restaurant, changing rooms, pitching areas and putting green, and rental of buggies, trolleys and complete sets of clubs. And as for the dress code—a recurring question—wearing a polo shirt and appropriate golf attire is mandatory.

And if after your round you want to keep exploring the area, the list of things to see and do in Canyamel is endless.

Rates and offers to play at the Canyamel golf course

The course is open 364 days a year—except December 25—from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM. The price for 18 holes starts at €80 in low season and goes up to €145 in high season. If you play only 9 holes, you’ll start at €50 and can go up to €85.

However, before you get an idea of how much you’re going to spend, take a look at their website, because there’s also a mid-season and, as its name suggests, the price is also in the middle. There are discounts for children under 16, as well as for groups of 12 people or more.

What other players say about the Canyamel golf course

The reviews from those who have played at Canyamel speak for themselves and particularly agree on two things: the quality of the greens and the friendliness of the staff.

Additionally, reviews highlight that it’s a truly beautiful course—something that shouldn’t surprise you after learning how much they care for the environment and the care with which it was designed.

And it’s not just regular players saying this, but celebrities like Stefan Kretzschmar or Axel Schulz and great professional golfers like Nuria Iturrioz have passed through here, who claim that Canyamel Golf has the best greens on the island. Wow!

And the restaurant doesn’t go without praise either, because the Mediterranean cuisine and the impressive views of the course—especially of hole 18—are spectacular.
