Spectacular, exciting, irresistible, and so special that lovers from all over the world have turned the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint into a small sanctuary of love with hundreds of padlocks hanging on its metal structures.
But the most impressive thing about the place is not this, but that from the top of Cap de Pinar, on the east coast of Mallorca, a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean unfolds before you.
If you want to know what exactly this viewpoint is, how to get there, what routes you can take to reach it, and what else is nearby to complete the day, keep reading, because from today this spot is going to be on your list of must-sees in Mallorca.
What is and where is the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint
The Cap de Pinar Viewpoint is a panoramic balcony located at the easternmost point of the Costa dels Pins development, in the municipality of Son Servera. Its exact address is at the end of Avinguda del Pinar, and you can access it via the Cala Millor-Costa dels Pins road.
It was restored and reopened to the public in 2017, and since then it has continued to grow in popularity. With good reason! It’s a platform about 70 meters long that you access by steps and has 360° views. From here you can see the Bay of Son Servera, Cala Bona, Cala Millor, and also the peninsula and the Castle of Punta de n’Amer.
But in addition to the views—and as we mentioned earlier—the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint holds countless love stories. Hundreds of couples have sealed their commitment here with a lock on the railing and the key thrown into the sea. But please, if you come on a getaway to Mallorca and want to leave your testimony of love here, don’t throw the key: bring a combination lock or take it with you. We want to keep the sea pristine.
How to get there and what routes you can take
The viewpoint is very accessible. By car, just follow the Cala Millor-Costa dels Pins road to the end of Avinguda del Pinar. But if you have time and energy, getting there on foot or by bike can be a great adventure. So much so that we’ll leave you two ways to do it here.
#1 From Platja de Sa Marjal on foot
Keep in mind that parking at Platja de Sa Marjal and with a route of barely two kilometers, you’ll be able to reach the viewpoint walking past well-kept white houses, full of flowers and gardens that perfume the entire path. It’s an easy, mostly flat, and pleasant walk that skirts the coast, allowing you to enjoy the sea breeze before reaching the viewpoint.
Don’t forget to bring a snack, as at the viewpoint there are areas to sit and trash bins so you can enjoy a picnic with the best views of the island.
#2 From Cala Millor by bike
At 36 km distance, this cycling route takes you through the most beautiful corners of Mallorca’s east coast, yes. But be careful, because it’s designed only for cyclists with experience and background. It has several uphill sections and, of course, impressive views of the Llevant coast.
The itinerary starts from the Cala Millor promenade and follows the bike lane to Cala Bona. From there you continue by road entering Costa dels Pins, where Sa Marjal appears on your right and, a little further on, the Son Servera Golf Club. Avinguda del Pinar marks the last stretch to the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint.
What's near the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint?
Cap de Pinar is one of the points you should mark on the map, but not the only one. This area of Mallorca has a lot, a whole lot to offer you. So, if you’ve already bothered to get here, make the most of it.
Play golf
A few meters from the viewpoint are two of the most famous golf courses in Mallorca: the Son Servera Golf Club and the Capdepera Golf Club. Both offer 18-hole courses with views over the Llevant coast and a playing experience for all levels. If you have clubs in the car—or if you’re considering renting them—it’s a plan that’s hard to beat.
Go to the Canyamel Viewpoint
Less than ten minutes away by car you’ll also come across Canyamel and its viewpoint, another spectacular perspective of the coastline. From this point you can see the Canyamel valley, the Canyamel Tower—a perfectly preserved medieval defensive structure—and the turquoise waters of some of the best coves in Mallorca.
Stop by to visit Cala Millor
The town of Cala Millor offers a wide range of leisure activities. It’s surrounded by impressive natural landscapes such as the Natural Park and the Castle of Punta de n’Amer, or the Auditòrium de sa Màniga, a cultural center with an extensive program of events and art exhibitions. In addition, you can take the opportunity to try typical Mallorcan food such as pa amb oli, frit mallorquí, sobrasada, and ensaimada; it has many restaurants and bars.
And of course, you can’t miss an afternoon enjoying its beach, an extensive stretch of transparent water and fine sand.
Set out to explore its caves
Do you know which are the two most impressive caves in Mallorca? The Drach and the Artà caves. And both are a stone’s throw from Cap des Pinar.
The Artà Caves are perhaps the least known, but they are a landmark to see in Capdepera. They’re on a cliff almost 40 meters above the sea, with views of Canyamel bay. Inside, more than 700 meters of horizontal route and rooms up to 45 meters high welcome you with stalagmites and chambers such as Hell, Purgatory, or Glory. The visits are guided and last between 35 and 40 minutes, culminating with a light and sound show.
And if you want more, come to the Drach Caves, in Porto Cristo. They feature one of the largest underground lakes in the world—Lake Martel— and right here you’ll be able to enjoy a mini classical music concert on a boat.
Are you coming to the Cap de Pinar Viewpoint and to explore its surroundings?
Although we haven’t mentioned it before, there is a viewpoint with a very similar name—Cap des Pinar—which is located near Alcudia bay; we’re telling you so you don’t confuse it when using the map.
And speaking of getting your bearings, if you’re coming to see and do all or some of the activities we’ve told you about, you’ll have to find somewhere to stay nearby, don’t you think?
