The first part of the 70.3 Ironman Mallorca will consist of a 1900 meter swim. The Ironman water distances in Mallorca are carried out in open waters near the town’s port.

The water temperature is usually 17° C. On the way to the sea, you will find two yellow buoys, which you must always pass on the outside.

A red buoy will then indicate a 90-degree left turn. A little further on, another red buoy will take you back towards the coast with another turn in the same direction. Finally, two yellow buoys will guide you on your way and you will reach the shore.

After the transition, you’ll get on your bicycle and bike for 90 km. From the 21st kilometre onwards, the road will start to steepen with gradients ranging from 1% to 4%. Between the 24th and 28th kilometre, you’ll encounter steep inclines of up to 15% in what will be the most difficult part. Afterwards, you will climb to the top of the Tramuntana mountain range. You’ll reach the top of the pass at an altitude of 565 metres.

From the 35th kilometre onwards, you will begin a long descent that will take you to the town of Campanet. Then, on practically flat terrain, you’ll cross Muro and turn north before reaching Albufera. You’ll pass through La Puebla and return to Alcudia.

Finally, you will have to run through the streets of Alcudia. Keep in mind that a large part of the route will be on the edge of the beach with views of the Mediterranean Sea.

In this part, you’ll have to run three 7 km laps around the bay. Depending on the weather, at this stage you’ll start to feel the effect of your previous efforts and need to freshen up. But the goal will be near. Upon finishing, you’ll have completed a total of 113 km. Keep in mind that the temperature is usually 25° C.

Do you still have doubts? You can check all the information about the competition on the official 70.3 Ironman Mallorca site.

How long does it take to do the half Ironman Mallorca?

This will vary greatly depending on your level. However, depending on the distance, we’ll make a small approximation for an intermediate level. The first stage of the swim can be completed at rate of about 2 minutes per 100 metres. In other words, around 38 minutes.

The 90 km of cycling is feasible at an average of 30 km per hour, as it is quite favourable. It will take about 3 hours. Finally, the 21 km run can be completed in about an hour and a half at approximately 15 km per hour.

Therefore, the total time for the Mallorca half Ironman will be about five hours. The winner of the previous edition achieved a time of 3 hours and 57 minutes, something that very few participants can do.
