The Alcudia Ironman is just around the corner. Next May, the twelfth edition of this event will take place, considered by many as the biggest half Ironman in the world. In this article, we’ll provide you with relevant information about the route, key dates and prices.
When is the Ironman held in Alcudia, Mallorca?
The date you need to note down is the 13th of May 2023. The half Ironman will start first thing in the morning, but in order to participate you will have to register in advance through the website Ironman 70.3 Alcudia Mallorca.

What is the route of the Alcudia half Ironman?
The first part of the Ironman 70.3 Alcudia will consist of a 1900 metre swim. This will take place, in its entirety, in the waters close to the local port. As you swim out to sea, you’ll come across two yellow buoys, which you must always pass on the outside.
A red buoy will then indicate a 90-degree left turn. A little further on, another red buoy will take you back towards the coast with another turn in the same direction. Finally, two yellow buoys will guide you on your way and you will reach the shore.
Bike route
After the transition, you’ll get on your bicycle and the Alcudia Ironman will take you through the most beautiful roads of the island. It’s a demanding route, but with numerous breaks and favourable sections. It’s 90 km long, but you’ll find the hardest part shortly after leaving Alcudia.
From the 21st kilometre onwards, the road will start to steepen with gradients ranging from 1% to 4%. Between the 24th and 28th kilometre, you’ll encounter steep inclines of up to 15% in what will be the most difficult part. Afterwards, some steep slopes will continue to appear as you climb to the top of the Tramuntana mountain range. You’ll reach the top of the pass at an altitude of 565 metres.
From the 35th kilometre onwards, after passing through Lluc, you will begin a long descent that will take you to the town of Campanet. Then, on practically flat terrain, you’ll cross Muro and turn north before reaching Albufera. You’ll pass through La Puebla and return to Alcudia to tackle the last stage, this time on foot.
Race
In this part, you’ll have to run three 7 km laps around the bay. Depending on the weather, at this stage you’ll start to feel the effect of your previous efforts and need to freshen up. But the goal will be near. Upon finishing, you’ll have completed a total of 113 km.

How long does it take to do the Alcudia, Mallorca half Ironman?
This will vary greatly depending on your level. However, depending on the distance, we’ll make a small approximation for an intermediate level. The first stage of the swim can be completed at rate of about 2 minutes per 100 metres. In other words, around 38 minutes. The 90 km of cycling is feasible at an average of 30 km per hour, as it is quite favourable. It will take about 3 hours.
Finally, the 21 km run can be completed in about an hour and a half at approximately 15 km per hour. Therefore, the total time for the event will be about five hours. The winner of the previous edition achieved a time of 3 hours and 57 minutes, something that very few participants can do.
How much is the registration fee?
Participation costs vary. When bookings opened it was €364. At the moment, the registration fee is €430. Furthermore, you have to add an additional 10% commission for the registration fee (€43). However, as places fill up, costs will continue to rise. Registration offers additional benefits that you’ll only be able to enjoy if you sign up before 20 September 2022.
For example, in case of cancellation, you will not have to pay any fees and you’ll get your money back in full. Provided, of course, that you give at least seven days’ notice before the event.

Why is Ironman no longer organising the long distance in Alcudia, Mallorca?
The organisers have offered no reason for not continuing with the long distance. After all, all previous editions were a success. It simply seems that it’s not worth organising their main event on the island.
