The beaches of Capdepera are located in the northeast of Mallorca, on a well-preserved stretch of coastline and, as we mentioned in the title, are the most tranquil on the Mallorcan coast compared to other more touristy areas of the island. Here, families, couples, and travelers mingle, all seeking—like you—beautiful, comfortable beaches with that touch of calm that can sometimes be hard to find, especially in summer.
These aren’t just places to throw down your towel and be done with it. They are beaches where you’ll want to be and spend the day… because they have everything! Just keep reading to discover them all and choose one—or several—for your vacation.
What are the beaches of Capdepera like?
The beaches of Capdepera are quite wide, with fine, golden sand, very pleasant for walking barefoot and perfect if you are traveling with children. With that, they already sound perfect, right?
But let us tell you that, in addition, the entry into the sea on these beaches is gradual, the water does not cover suddenly, and the currents are usually gentle, so it is a fairly safe area for swimming.
At first glance, they may seem like just any beaches, but something that impresses you when you look closely is the colors. The sea is very clean, so you can perfectly distinguish the different shades of blues and greens of the water.
And to add to the joy, the ends usually have rockier areas, ideal if you like snorkeling or want to get started. Among the rocks and the Posidonia meadows—very present in this part of the coast—it is easy to see fish and areas of especially transparent water.
Although its great advantage is tranquility, even in high season.
Which Capdepera beaches should you visit?
We have given you the keys to the beaches of Capdepera, but here is a more exhaustive analysis so you know which one fits you best; some have dunes and a wilder landscape, and others are more protected, surrounded by pine trees and rocks.
Cala Agulla: The wildest and most famous of all
Cala Agulla is probably the best known of the beaches of Capdepera. It is a wide sandy beach with clear sand and turquoise water, surrounded by shrubs and dunes, with a very undeveloped landscape that gives it a wild air.
Although it has beach bars, sunbeds, and services, the environment is very natural. It is a very good candidate if you want to understand why so many people say that some of the best coves in Mallorca are here.
Cala Mesquida: The most open to the sea
This Capdepera beach is another of the great classics and, although it is a little more secluded, it is a large, open beach with a spectacular dune system and a landscape that mixes pine trees, sand, and sea in a panoramic version.
In terms of services, it is also very good: it has beach bars, lifeguards, access walkways, and plenty of ground to put your towel.
Son Moll: The most urban
Son Moll is the urban beach of the area, next to the town of Cala Ratjada. It is smaller than the previous ones, but very comfortable. It has a promenade, restaurants, cafes, shops, and all services within a couple of minutes’ walk.
Canyamel: The quietest
Canyamel beach is a little more secluded, but that is precisely why it retains a very quiet atmosphere. It is a sandy beach with mixed areas of small stones, surrounded by mountains and vegetation, with a very pleasant environment to spend the day.
Sa Font de sa Cala: The one with clear waters
Sa Font de sa Cala has a more residential atmosphere. It is a medium-sized cove with fine sand and very clear waters, surrounded by low-rise houses and hotels. The water here is usually very calm, making it a good option if you are traveling as a family or if you are looking to spend a few hours soaking without complicating your life.
In addition, it is a good place to get involved in activities such as paddle surfing or kayaking in Mallorca.
Cala Gat: The most welcoming
Cala Gat is very close to Cala Ratjada and is quite small compared to the others, but it more than makes up for it with its charm. The water is extremely transparent, and its surroundings full of rocks and pine trees give it a very unique touch. It is perfect if you like somewhat more intimate places.
What to see near the beaches of Capdepera
If you are wondering what to see in Capdepera, the answer will not be short. The municipality has several very interesting points just a few minutes away by car.
One of the must-sees is the Castell de Capdepera, a very well-preserved medieval fortification that is on top of a hill. Going up to the castle is one of those plans that is always worth it: walking along its walls, entering the grounds and, from above, enjoying the spectacular views of the northeast of Mallorca.
Another very special point is the Capdepera Lighthouse, a construction on a cliff overlooking the sea. It is a perfect place to go first thing in the morning or at sunset to see how the sun rises or sets.
Very close to Capdepera you can also visit the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park, one of the most interesting natural spaces on the island. Here you can do some of the hiking trails in Mallorca among pine trees, stretches of wilder coastline, viewpoints, and coves. They are not extreme or technical routes, but they are very visual.
More plans: visit its caves and enjoy Mallorcan gastronomy
From Capdepera and also from Cala Ratjada you can get closer to know some of the best caves in Mallorca. If you are interested in the underground world, this is a highly recommended plan.
You can visit the Caves of Campanet or those of Artà. They have a spectacular interior, full of stalactites, stalagmites, and very striking rock formations.
And of course, don’t miss the gastronomic part. Near the beaches of Capdepera you will find restaurants where to try typical Mallorcan food such as tumbet, frit mallorquí, sobrasada, or rice dishes and fideuàs made with great care.
