from a Civil Guard barracks into a cultural space with a <\/span><b>very generous program in both quantity and quality of 400;\">As we&#8217;ve already mentioned, the building that now houses the theater <\/span><b>was built in the late second decade of the 20th century as a Civil Guard barracks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the function of providing coverage to all the towns of Pla de Mallorca\u2014a rural area in the heart of the island.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For decades it served that function and, although it wasn&#8217;t exactly beloved for its architectural merits, it did have the respect of its neighbors. Even more so since it became the Teatre Municipal Es Quarter. <\/span><\/p><p><b>When the barracks fell out of use, the Petra Town Council considered what to do with it. The answer, after the renovation process, was to turn it into the municipality&#8217;s cultural center. <\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name &#8220;Es Quarter&#8221;\u2014the Barracks, in Mallorcan\u2014was kept on purpose. It&#8217;s a nod to the building&#8217;s history and also a reminder that spaces can change use and be renewed when there&#8217;s the will. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1c4cfd1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"1c4cfd1\" features of the architecture used for public institutions in the early 20th century: <\/span><b>sober, built of mar\u00e9s stone\u2014the quintessential building material of traditional Mallorcan architecture\u2014with proportions and scales without too many frills.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And now for the interesting part\u2014the interior!<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The renovation ensured that the theater has comfortable seats, good acoustics, perfect lighting, and facilities that have nothing to envy from venues in much larger This Franciscan friar, despite being the son of a humble farming family, ended up becoming one of the most universal Mallorcans in history. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He founded the California missions\u2014including those that gave rise to cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco\u2014was canonized by Pope Francis in 2015, and his statue represents the state of California in the United States Capitol. Wow! <\/span><\/p><p><b>Related to Fray Jun\u00edpero Serra, you can visit the Church of Sant Pere\u2014where he was baptized\u2014the Convent of Sant Bernard\u00ed\u2014where he studied\u2014and Puig de Bonany with the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Bonany, where there&#8217;s a cross in tribute to him.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh! And in the vicinity of Plaza Ramon Llull\u2014the center of Petra\u2014there&#8217;s a market on Wednesdays, a good opportunity to see the town full of stalls and pick up some traditional products
