One of them is Art\u00e0, a town located in the northeast of the island, in the Llevant region. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does it have? History, an old town with plenty of character, coves and beaches and, as a finishing touch, one of the most spectacular caves in Mallorca. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So why isn&#8217;t it as touristy as Valldemossa or S\u00f3ller? But the history of this municipality begins before the Arabs set foot on these lands. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The archaeological remains in the area prove that this area was inhabited more than 3,000 years ago. One piece of evidence is the  <\/span><b>Ses Pa\u00efsses archaeological site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; it&#8217;s a few kilometers from the center and is <\/span><b>one of the most important in the Balearics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has perfectly preserved stone walls that protected around 60 dwellings. It&#8217;s at 182 meters high and from the top you can see the entire town center, as well as the Sierra de Llevant and the Mediterranean. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can visit its interior and its small museum completely free <\/span><b>from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And watch out, because this sanctuary has a twisted history:<\/span><b> it was burned down by the town&#8217;s own inhabitants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  and the current building was constructed on its remains. Why? It&#8217;s best to ask around town to see what each person tells you; there&#8217;s more than one theory, although most say it was   <\/span><b>to stop the Black Death epidemic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, since the Sanctuary of Sant Salvador had been used as a makeshift hospital.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-87365cc e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"87365cc\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-65589a0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"65589a0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Coves d'Art\u00e0 \n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-205bb48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"205bb48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Coves d&#8217;Art\u00e0 are, technically, in the municipality of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idealpropertymallorca.com\/blog\/what-to-see-capdepera\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capdepera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014they&#8217;re one of the loose ends of an old administrative division that hasn&#8217;t been entirely clarified. Well, the thing is they&#8217;re known as the Caves of Art\u00e0 and they&#8217;re about 15 kilometers from the town. They served as a refuge for pirates and as a sanctuary for Moorish army fighters in the 13th century. They&#8217;re located about 50 meters above sea level, at Cap Vermell, and their entrance is a huge rock opening.   <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once inside these cavities\u2014some of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idealpropertymallorca.com\/blog\/the-10-best-cave-tours-in-mallorca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best caves in Mallorca<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!\u2014the guided tour lasts between 35 and 40 minutes and covers about <\/span><b>700 meters of galleries and chambers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Hell, Purgatory, the Theater and the Organ, and the Hall of Flags\u2014where you&#8217;ll find <\/span><b>stalagmites up to 22 meters high<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temperature here is 18\u00b0C and the humidity is 80%, so if you go in summer, bring a sweater or jacket.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They&#8217;re much less well-known than the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idealpropertymallorca.com\/blog\/caves-of-drach\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drach Caves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so fewer people visit them and therefore they&#8217;re quieter. Well, then take the opportunity to learn about the history of Casa de Ca&#8217;n Cardaix, which dates from the 16th century and is next to the town hall. <\/span><\/p><p><b>This building is one of the best-preserved examples of traditional Mallorcan architecture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; it has a sandstone portal, barred windows, a Renaissance window with plant motifs, and a beautiful garden that you can see because it functions as the terrace of a restaurant.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-307c81e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"307c81e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0b4ee1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f0b4ee1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Beaches, coves, and natural spaces you can't miss in Art\u00e0 \n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5274c09 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5274c09\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Art\u00e0 doesn&#8217;t have its own coastline, but the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idealpropertymallorca.com\/blog\/parc-natural-peninsula-llevant\/\"><b>Llevant Peninsula Natural Park<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is very close, which means if you come to visit the town you&#8217;ll be able to enjoy more than 1,600 hectares of protected land and up to <\/span><b>fourteen different hiking routes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
